So, I bought a Ford.....

My longtime friend redranger97 has been a member for some time. I was that guy driving a Chevy talking crap all the time.

My last truck was a d21 Nissan 4x4 and I loved it, but she was a bit underpowered.

So here is the skinny found a 1986 extended cab 4x4 listed for 1800. Went and took it for a ride and here we are. Talked him down to a smooth 900.

So there is minimal rust just on the bed and should not be detrimental to the life of the truck

Has the push button 4x4 with manual hubs, tested and all in working order (surprised)

It has had the 4.0 swap from a 97 explorer (they said) truck runs like a champ starts up first try. Has a five speed manual.

So all in all I'm excited overall great package and from browsing the site all the upgrades to come she is going to be a great truck.

The dirty, the rotors are all but cracked on the front the e brake does not even come up from the floor. The rear drums are making noise as it rides down the road.

The truck has no tack so nothing works with exception of the Speedo (there are aftermarket volts, oil, and temp) the fuel gauge also doesn't work... Cruise control does though lol.

The ac fan blows the heater core is bypassed (I live in Fl. So that's ok) looks like one of the hoses is not hooked up on the condenser. There are a handful of cut wires and disco connectors.

So should be fun piecing it together and figuring out which forum to post on for what lol.

Hope to learn allot and hopefully contribute as well!

Welcome to TRS and congratulations on the new wheels...

I guess if it was me I'd want to pull the bed and check the frame really good...clean up the little rust if you have time but main thing you could access the fuel gauge connections and clean them up...probably a squirrel built a nest in there and chewed up some wires for a snack...

The brakes are pretty easy to do but I'd want to check the lines and replace them all if needed...they are not hard at all to do with the bed off...and if you've never done them before you will be surprised at how easy they can be...probably need to replace the brake cables while you're in there but they are easy also...

I'm sure you will find more than enough information on here on how to do anything...enjoy~

Definitely brakes first. I wouldn't be surprised if the drums in the rear were super gouged out :) But it sounds like that truck will be a blast. Everything else should be a relatively easy fix.
