hey guys, im wondering about doing dual batterys on the 79. my main questions are:

Can i just ground the wire from the second battery without touching the ground from the primary battery?

Can i run a wire for the positive from the secondary battery to the solenoid without messing around with the wires from the primary battery?

Will the secondary take charge from the alt from the solenoid?

thanks

Essential, yes to all those questions. You can ground the second battery to any metal on the body or frame. And you can run the sec. batt. hot wire to the solenoid. Only problem would be the high amp draw upon start up of the engine and heavy loads. Depending on use, you can either A. Use a low gauge wires in parallel to the Primary batter. Or B. Use an isolator to seperate the Secondary battery from the Primary battery until the engine is started, in which the alternator will start charging both batteries.

In Ford's dual battery diesels, I beleive Ford grounds both batteries to the engine and chassis and run a low gauge hot wire to both batteries.
