I have a Droid 2 from Verizon. Does anybody know if the phone still works without a cellular service? Thought bout giving it to my kids to use as an “ipod”, if I can still use it with wifi. Just want it for music, pictures and download games from google play store.

it should still work without the network, but would beable to make emergency calls. so make sure they know not to call 911 or anything

Yup im using my og droid as an ipod at work.

Wifi needed to access the market, facebook, internet, pandora

Stored music, movies and the like will still work.

Everything should work besides phone calls and texting (there are texting apps though)

awesome, I kinda assumed as much. Now the only problem is which of my kids gets it.....

They've been wanting ipods (they're only freakn 7) but I'm not paying that price. My wife has an LG Ally, but its a complete POS. I was looking at MP3 players for xmas, but I know the main reason they want an ipod is for games.

Too bad our old BB Pearls doesn't have wifi....

A friend of mine uses Ping, Pingey, Pinger something like that.

Its ok my only gripe about it is every inital message to someone everyday gets a message asking you to join "app name" kinda like an ad.

Only does it once though. Hell for free can't really complain I guess
