driving problems

I have a 96 2.3 b2300 and whenever I go over 30 it shakes like crazy is that a proble, with the engine or something to do with the drivetrain? I jhust put a side exhaust on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
 
Yeah I would think it is a problem. Maybe a motor mount, does it do it in the driveway while reving the engine or only while moving?
 
no its none of that... check the universals in your drive shaft. or a broken belt in ur tire
 
It only happens while driving. I am a complete amature when it comes to this so what are the universals in the driveshaft? Is it an easy fix?
 
get under the truck and twist the drive shaft back and forth, look for play in any of the joints and where it bolts to the rear end. also check that all your lug nuts are tight on your wheels and that the tire are in good shape.
 
I checked the lugnuts and they are all tight. The drive shaft has a large circle thing around it that rattles whenever I drive. I dont know what it is called.
 
a carrier bearing? does the driveshaft ride inside of it? and is it mounted to the underside of the truck? if so, that's probably your problem. not too hard to change. make sure to mark the oriantation of your driveshaft to the rear end and transmission and put it back the same way you took it out. and while you have the shaft out you might as well change the u-joints. if you've driven it long with it bouncing around they are probably about shot.

its not mounted to anything although it probably was and the mounts broke off. Its just a thing circle thats sliding up and down the drive shaft. How would I take it out myself?
 
ooh, sounds like the carrier bearing came apart then. that is surely a problem. since you really don't have a clue about it, i suggest you take it to a shop. if you put the shaft in wrong it'll vibrate. Just ask if you can watch them so you can learn a thing or two. Or if you have a friend or someone who knows that is willing to help you go that route. It's really not a bad job if you feel like taking it on your self. you have to take the driveshaft off remove the old carrrier and slide the new one into place and bolt everything back up.
I did one on a full size chevy not that long ago and we had to go get the bearing pressed into the carrier though. so don't leave yourself stranded. :D
-edit- now that i'm thinking about it, that should be a 2 peice driveshaft. you probably just have to unbolt it from the rear end and slide it apart in the middle to get the carrier out. like i said though, be sure to mark everything before disassembly and put it back the way you took it out.

Thanks Im gonna take it to a local shop. Do you know how where I can get the part they would prbly charge me extra for not having it already
 
any local parts store should have one. Your shop probably won't charge you extra for the part though. labor is what'll get you. probably charge you a couple hundered bucks to do it. Like i said, if you want to learn just ask them if you can watch.

ohh. the guy in the mazda thead you were talking to probably hit the nail on the head. i though you were talking about something totally different. matter of fact that looks like it's one solid shaft, i don't think you even have a carrier on that :D. is your truck standard or extended cab?
