I've read that you can replace the cv style drive shaft with a u-joint drive shaft in a bronco 2 as long as it's the same length (autos have the cv, manuals have the u joint, either single or double?). My question is that the cv shaft can compress or expand, but how does the u-joint shaft do this, or isn't it necessary?

it's always necessary to have some flex in the length of the shaft. The U-joint shaft will do it by a slip-joint in the middle of the shaft.

Mine was an auto and came with u-joints so look at those also don't forget different tranny's are different lengths make sure you get the same length drive line.

you need to go to www.broncoll.org tech section on the post
"eazy d-shaft replacement:icon_surprised:. I did this in 4 hours this past sunday,:yahoo:

that link doesnt work :(

Somebody needs to repost it over here. It worked last night when I started reading it. Now that it doesn't I don't have anything to read at work :pissedoff:

Thanks guys I saw that post shortly after it appeared, but the link was dead. I found it on BII.org and figured it would still be easier to get a factor u joint shaft that fits from a BII and pop it in place rather than messing around with two or three shafts and a grinder. But, this would be fine if you had acess to all the parts. I really appreciate the input, heres a good link.http://broncoii.org/forum/index.php?topic=926.0
