Has anyone else had problems with the driveshaft that goes from the t-case to the front axle?

It appears to be a 2 piece shaft and has broken free on the inside. This is the second time it has happened. The replacement shaft came from a junkyard, no telling how many miles were on it to begin with.

What could be causing this? Is there a one piece replacement available?

dont think theres a one peice, because theres no slip yoke on the front driveshaft. now i dont own a 4x4 so i cant look at mine, but pictures would help. also, buying a new part wouldnt be a bad idea.

you could always have one custom made. I havent heard of this problem before.

I haven't heard of this before either.

The front shaft is considered "1-piece". A "2-piece" shaft has a drive shaft, a u-joint, and then another drive shaft on the other side. You have to have a slip yoke or the shaft will bend or the transfer case drop will get pushed back and broken off the first time you put any flex into the front suspension.

Make sure your transfer case is disengaged. It sounds like you are blowing out the slip yokes and stripping the splines. The most likely reason I can think of is the transfer case staying engaged on the road. The splines of the slip yoke could constitute a weak point if not greased properly.

^What he said. I can co sign on this.

How am I supposed to grease it? No place to grease on it.

I'm pretty sure it disengages. It doesn't drive like it's locked in and 4x4 works fine.

You can take the shaft out, shake it, and hear ding sound about half way down.

You get a grease kit and new clamps. Undo the clamps around the boot and squeeze the grease into it and re-clamp.

The clamps need a special set of pliers for it though.

And my money is still on something staying engaged in the 4x4 system.

i agree. these things are made for an ass kicking. for them to just strip, it must be locked in on dry pavement.

Well then, here is another twist. :icon_rofl:

It's done this with two different transfer cases. That's two different shafts and two different t-cases.

Since there were no replies to my last post, does that mean I win the internet? :yahoo:

Seriously, where do I get one of those clamp kits?

Or any auto parts stores....that's where I got mine at. Those front shafts have whats called a Double Cardon U-joint assy. in them, making them extremely strong. Something does not seem right.
