I had my 5-speed M50 2-wd tranny refurbished. The guy said the yoke felt loose to him. I just pulled it off to check it out and now I'm not sure I got it back on right. I took a pic and you can see that there is about an inch between the rear of the tranny and the round part of the yoke where the bolts go in. does the yoke push in further than that, or is this what it is supposed to look like?

Looks fine to me. It's a slip yoke, there's supposed to be some room. When the axle moves up, that will actually slide in a bit.

By loose maybe he was referring to the side-to-side motion of it? if he was and he just refurbished it he didn't do a very good job.

Either:
A) never replaced the worn bearing back there or
B) failed to notice the slip yoke was worn beyond spec.

He said it didn't seem to fit very tight in the new bushing he put in the rear of the tranny and I might need a new yoke.

So that thing slides in when there is enough pressure? Because I pushed it in as far as I could by hand and then tightened the nut down so it won't slide out.

I don't remember there being a nut on the end of my M5OD when I pulled the driveshaft off to remove my broken inertia ring. It just slid off and slid back on? I think I'm missing something here.

did I say nut? My bad. I've got a 1/2 inch-head bolt with an o-ring to keep the fluid from leaking out that goes through the center of the yoke and keeps it attached to the the tranny
