My trck just suddenly started vibrating from about 50mph to around 60mph (witch ofcourse is the speed i travel at all the time!!!!)... and under hard acceleration in all the way through 1st gear and some of 2nd it will make a pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop sound kinda like a faint metal to metal pop.. When I put it in reverse or drive it will make a LOUD POP!

I thought it was the pinon bearing but I cant seem to see any slack in it when i pry on the driveshaft, the U joints look fine and dont seem to have any play in them either. Its a 4.0 regular cab short bed with 8.8 rear. Is there a place to grease the splines on the driveshaft? It has 245,000 miles on it.

thanks

Time to pull the cover off the rear differential and check the gear teeth/mesh. If it's that bad, you'll see evidence in there. Doesn't sound like a driveshaft or tranny issue to me.

Does not sound like axle to me. its either driveshaft issue or tranny. When was the last time you changed the lube in the trans? Id pull the trans plug drain it and check for metal fragments and refill with new lube

On the rear two piece drive shaft you can get noise if it's not properly lubed. Just pry the metal band off the rubber accordion boot (carefully since you will reuse it) and the shaft slips apart. Clean it as best you can and grease it. It was very easy to do.

Your u joints can look and feel good sometimes and still be shot as I found when I pulled my drive shaft. When you get the shaft out it's easier to see if the u joints are rough or otherwise damaged.

mine has a 1 peice Driveshaft.
the vibration goes away when I am coasting... or atleast I cant fell it.
Ill pull the cover and check the R&P
The tranny was rebuilt right aruond 20K miles ago and built pretty strong the fluid looks new on the stick. I just hate to go changing U joints and backlash or bearings unless i really know whats wrong. Any more advice would be great.
thanks

it sounds like the rear
mine went in my dodge and that's what it did
started vibrating and under hard acceleration it will make a pop sound and then it would make a faint knocking sound if you let it go that far its done
