Have a 92 and want to swap driveshaft can i get one for an automatic and switch out the spline that goes into the tyranny with the one I have on my truck or can I get a 4x4 and switch out both ends with mine 92 xlt 2wd 5 speed

Probably someone has done something similar but otherwise you may not get an answer to fit this exact situation...but, essentially, pretty much anything is possible either through welding on different ends or using different U-joints for specific applications.

They make U-joints for matching two different widths of couplers...any parts store can find you one that will work with different situations..

I had one welded when I went from regular to extended cab length because I could not find a spline to fit the M5OD...other than a slider two-piece that I had custom fitted...it worked perfectly for 10 years.

Main thing is to get the exact length of the shaft including the spline and couplers...I forget the exact length for the shafts but they are pretty much standardized...

I only deal in '98+ but...the transmissions are basically the same.

For my Rangers, the driveshaft for the manual was exactly the same as for the automatic; so direct swap. (i.e. the M5OD had same splines as the 5R55E).

Now, I have played with non-standard combinations, in which case, swapping the axle yoke from pre-'98 for post-'98 got me the end I wanted (going from 7.5 to 8.8); and I have swapped the transmission yoke (M5OD to 4R70W - V8 conversion). For all those examples no modification to the driveshaft was required.

You don't want both a slider at transmission and slider in driveshaft, e.g. put 2wd transmission yoke on 4wd driveshaft (with both compressed, driveshaft would fall out and you would get a pole vault situation).
