I wasn't sure where to put this so I stuck it in here. I have a 99 4x4 and I had the truck up on a full contact lift just inspecting everything underneath the truck. I grabbed the driveshaft and tried turning it and I could turn it side to side about 1/4". Is that ok or is there something I need to do about it? Is there suppose to be that much play?

A 1/4 inch is fine. What you are feeling is the play between your ring and pinion.

Its a combination of movement in the ring and pionion and tcase/ transmission.

Totally normal.

Ok I was just curious. Any suggestions as to what I should do if it gets any worse? Is there a certain spec that it has to be within?

Just make sure that thats where the play is coming from and that its not from the U-Joints. Grab hold of the drive shaft, and the pinion yoke, and try turning one while holding the other.

Sounds like you're gonna be in good shape but its always nice to be sure of where the play is coming from.

Actually it's mostly within the spider gears and axleshaft splines (the play in the R&P by itself is only .008-.015" or so), but yes, perfectly normal.
