On my rbv (85 ranger 4X4 chassis) 46 Dodge project, I moved the motor back 4 3/8 inches did the explorer swap, got the transfer case output flange and an explorer driveshaft (48" in a relaxed position). I have 49" between the flanges. Finally the question, is the 1" difference too much for the slip joint in the driveshaft?

I think I would call a shop that specializes in driveline and suspensions. It may be ok for smooth road driving, but that extra inch may be all the difference in the world when you hit a large pothole or any other obstacle that causes the rear springs to flex a lot.

Btw, sounds like a neat project. do you have a build thread for it?
