driveshaft compatibility

Will the drive shafts from an 02 Ranger bolt to my 96 Ranger? I know it's a 2-piece to a one piece in the rear, so the cross member needs to go, but what about the flanges and the front drive shaft? Are they different?

In 96 all of your flanges should match up. The other things you need to look at are 2wd vs 4wd because the 2 has a slip joint, the 4 has a bolt on flange at the front, and you need to make sure they are the same wheel base.

All super cabs have the same wheel base and all standard cab long bed are the same and all reg cab short beds are the same, you just have to match your body options.

Finally you will probably have to trim a bit off of your gas tank skid plate for the 02 shaft because it is bigger around. If you stay on the road and never get any flex in the rear that won't be a problem though.
