Driveline Pop on Takeoff

Needless to say, I'm mistified as to what my problem is. I honestly can't say if it's something in the driveline or in the suspension, but here goes.

Any time I stop hard, like if a light changes on me and I have to stop quick, I get a big pop when I take off. I can feel it in the cab; it feels like something shifting in the rear end when the torque gets put to it. It sounds like a metal-on-metal pop, and again, I can feel the rear-end kind of hop when it happens.

If I stop very very gently, like rolling to a stop without the brakes, it doesn't seem to happen. It's usually only on hard stops. I looked all around the rear end when I had the truck in the air for the turbo, but I couldn't see anything loose.

What should I look at?

I'd say more likely it's something in the u-bolts or leafspring mounts.

Remove the drive shaft and carefully inspect joint. I've heard this kind of sound on a GMC 1500 and the problem was in the slip yoke(GM sell a special grease to put there)

also, check the condition of the rear shocks, many times with shocks as they become worn over time i have see in hard braking when the vehicle dives forward the shocks will extend and lock in the back, and upon acceleration weight transfer to the rear frees them up and u hear a metal on metal pop. just something to check

Does it have flange style drive shaft?? Check the bolts, they can back off and make a POP noise when changing direction. Have also seen output shaft to flange spline make noise. Again the retaining nut can back off and allow movement between the splines of the shaft and flange.
