In my post "Tired Old A4LD" you guys said that the it sounds like my cv style drive shaft is worn out, and that the clicking sound I described was proof. I checked the the shaft and it has no side to side slop. It moves from front to back about and inch (supposed to), and only turns about a 1/4 inch before actually turning the wheels. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at but it seems fine to me. If it's alright any other ideas on the clicking sound?

if you have auto hubs and it clicks in two wheel the auto hubs have not disengaged

Didn't read your other post, so am not sure what your clicking is like. I have had one front manual hub click a few months ago - you can tell it is in sync with the wheel rotation when you pull away from a stop and can easily tell it is in front - I repacked with grease and it stopped, but just ordered Warns from streetside automotive where I used coupon code ssawinner09 to save 10% of their already-lowest-I-could-find price - plus free shipping.

However, I'm writing to say it might still be your GKN shaft. Mine made a clicking sound that eventually became a gravely sound kind of like a diesel truck accelerating - it would do this kind of sparodically, but often when pulling away from a stop and then, eventually, when slowing to a stop (and probably when driving on the freeway, but I couldn't hear it over other noises). When mine was going bad, it didn't feel very sloppy when you grabbed it and moved it around by hand - no side to side. It barely moved forward and back, either. You could turn it and the wheels by hand when on a lift and not hear the noise or be able to recreate it (part of why it took so long to pin it down and replace it). However, in circumstances that were not always consistant - but often after a stop would drive it forward - it would move far enough in the worn out ball-bearing cage that it would then make the clicking/gravely sound when under load from acceleration.

I have been very happy with the u-joint one I got from automotive parts unlimited on ebay (where I see one now for $175). Others are selling the APU shaft for $100 more, so I was glad to buy directly from them. Their shipping was super reasonable and fast and they had no core charge as others do.
