I think i need a support bearing on my drive shaft for the last year ive had a vibrating sound somtimes from my truck. i got under it and the drive shaft has a little play ( when i say little i mean hardly any )

What I need to know is the size of the bearing to order .. no clue how to tell untill its apart unless you can help

1995 ranger splash 4x4 4.0 auto .. with dana 35 front axle .

how do i measure this ! :icon_bounceblue:

Put her in NEUTRAL, get under there again, and shake the hell out of the U-joints.. Usually they are the problem. Make sure they are tight before looking elsewhere. Neutral is a must when doing this.

Had the same issue with mine last week. Had a vibrations, turned our my rear u joint had a lot of slop in it. Went ahead and change all 3, problem was solved.

More often than not the support bearing is not the issue.

the rubber mount is moving in the retaining bracket...

the fix? Remove the U-shaped bracket and line it with a piece of 5/8 or 3/4" heater hose

Actually HALF a piece of heater hose, split it lenghtwise with a stanley utility
knife and use only one half of the length of hose
cramt it together and crank those bolts down and compress the shit out of all that rubber.

Eliminating the "lost motion" eliminates the uncontrolled shifts in phase angle which create the self perpetuating oscillations that drive you nuts and frustrate your girlfriend by not being of sufficient frequency to have what she considers the desired effect.

Or go to your local junkyard and ask for a driveshaft from a 1998-00 supercab

OR from a 01-current and buy a T-case output flange off of a 2001-up
from the ford dealer and forget you ever HAD a center support bearing.

just because there new joints it dont mean they cant go bad, i just changed all of mine last year and one of them is already bad. when i changed them the first time it was because of a lot of vibration, but i could NOT tell they were bad from undernieth the truck. i recomend pulling the driveline out and simply moving the joints around.
