Nope!

That engine does NOT have a drive belt.. You are most likely speaking of the accessory belt. Usually the problem lies with the tensioner or the idle pullys.. They are cheap, $15/20.. Both should be replaced when one is bad.

Take them off and spin them in your hand feeling for bumps or roughness.. If the pully wobbles even a llittle they are bad.. If they have 50/60K on them they need to be replaced anyway.. They are tiny rollerskate bearings and shouldn't be in there anyway. They wear more than any other part of the engine.

well i figured out the problem but don't know how to fix it. the power steering pulley is sitting more forward than all of the others. it's not sitting all the way on the shaft. you can see shiney metal where it was sitting before but now it doesn't want to go all the way back on. maybe a 1/4". do you think it might be excess paint inside the pulley hole from when i painted everything?

the p/s pulley is supposed to be flush with the shaft when viewed from the front. they are extremely tight to the shaft and it likely did not move. every p/s pump i've even seen new and used also had about 1/32" or more of in and out movement from the shaft.

look for bent pulleys, sloppy pulleys, all the pulleys should spin freely.

the most common failures are the a/c pulley, tensioner pulley, and the idler pulley.

are you installing the belt properly?

yes the belt was installed properly. what i was saying is that i had to take that pulley off when i had the engine apart. so i'm assuming its not going on all the way now. i'll go look if it is flush or not from the front

you can see where it was sitting before

if you look you can see its not lined up

and its not flush

idk if the tolerances are too tight because you cant push it on any further
