ive had my truck for about 3 years now, when i got it the check engine ligt was on, had it checked out and was told it was the dpfe sensor, exact word were " the dpfe sensor is doing what its suppose to but its just sending the wrong signal" and 3 months later the light went off, but my trucks always run a little sluggish. my question is would the dpfe cause the truck to run like crap, also what are some signs of a bad sensor?

Yes it can cause all kinds of issues...the DPFE controls the opening and closing of the EGR valve. If the EGR is open at idle it will idle and run like crap. The EGR should only open while at cruising speeds.

If you have P0401/0402 codes, replace the DPFE.

I had the same thing happen with my truck changed out the dpfe sensor since it was the original, codes still get thrown so would mine deal with the actual egr valve itself?

What are the codes?

i had my shadetree mechanic look at mine the otherday and he siad my problem could be the egr too

With a good wrench and a big ass breaker bar you should be able to change it pretty easy yourself, probably improve the driveability of the truck too.
