I have been having a problem with my 'Check Engine' light coming on recently. I was trying to get it ready for Emissions testing and that would not let it pass. I pulled the codes and got 'insufficient flow in the EGR system'. I ran a few quick tests and narrowed it down to it most likely being the DPFE sensor but the tests for it were complicated. I kept searching for a simple test and finally found one. The DPFE sensor has three pins and resistance should be measured from either end ones to the center. I found one had an open circuit and that was enough for me to order a new DPFE sensor.
When the new one arrived, I checked it and sure enough both ends showed resistance to the center. I installed it and I have no more CEL. The Ranger passed emissions and I am good for another two years.
