Possible to fry the PCM/ECU by using multimeter to diagnose DPFE sensor?

Bummer, thanks for the update

One that comes with keys...

yes, keys would be important. Good point.

Now I’m confused on how to deal with the anti-theft. Is it either get the new ECU with programmed keys and have the dealer flash the ecu for my PATS or can I buy a matching junkyard ECU with immobilizer, ignition and PATS module (please tell me if I’m missing some other necessary component)

You need the new ECU and two pre-programmed uncut keys. Then just get the keys cut to match your old ones and thats it. Dealer not involved.

A junkyard ECU wont work unless you find the keys with the truck, or have the ability to program the ecu (forscan can do this) the dealer probably won't touch it. A good locksmith might.

The other parts involved in the PATS system are not vehicle, key, or ecu specific. Only the keys and ecu are a matched set.

Im curious how exactly the mechanic started your truck with another ecu...

Oh right on, then I’m just going to order one. I read something quickly on another forum, but maybe that was for an older gen ranger.
And he started it via jumping the starter relay, I’m guessing. He said he replaced the bad injector, and bypass started it again (with the old ECU still installed) and it fried or whatever the new injector.
Then tried a different ECU with a 2nd new injector and truck seem to run fine after that.

So I guess must’ve actually fried something on the board when I was trying to diagnose my EGR engine code. Or it’s just coincidence
