my 88 bronco 2 build is all most done, its leaf spring front, one tons, 44 inch tsl, 2.9 v6 5spd

just got to figure out what motor, tranny, and transfer case to run

i m kickin around the idea of a 1350 1354 doubler but not sure how it will hold up with 44s. For the guys runnin them what do you think, also what axles gears should it run 5.38s or higher
 
There should be no issues with running a 1350-based doubler as long as your axles are geared properly for the tires.

What ratio is needed can't really be known until you figure out what motor you're going to use though. The 2.9L is gonna need at least 6.17:1 (maybe even 7.17:1 if it's not street-registered), a 4.0L or 5.0L might be able to get away with something in the 5.86-6.17 range.
 
you could run a 302/5.0, a c4/c5 hybrid tranny and the dual 1350/1354's

that's pretty much what I got - minus the 5.0, but all i have to do is swap bellhousings to a v8 bell when I find a 5.0

If you want ultimate strength, go with a 203/205 t case combo, then youd have more tranny and engine choices
 
Is your front axle a high pinion? If so the deepest gears you can buy are 5.38s so you will have to build around that. On my early bronco I'm running 44s, 5.13s with 1tons, a 203/205 doubler, a NP435 4spd, with a stock 302 and the comboe is great. I have a gear to do whatever i want and the lil 302 doesn't struggle at all to spin the 44s all day long.
 
its a high pinion i thought they went all the way to 7.17s for the front they have them listed on yukons web page

Cummon baby I rlly wanna see that 2.9 workin to turn those 44's!!! maybe if you just got a set of 39-40" tires you could get a set of gears to match the 2.9....
 
you can use a c4 tranny that came behind a v8, then you'd need the tailshaft and housing off of a c5 that came from a ranger or bronco 2 from mid 80's.
that will let you bolt on a 1350 or 1354 t case or two of them.

or you can use the c5 from the ranger/b2 and rebuild it to v8 specs (it basicaly just needs extra clutches added)
it would be a good lightweight combo - a 203/205 combo is ungodly heavy, and longer.
plus a c4 is about as short as you can get in an auto tranny - with a doubler in a broncoII, I think length would be a concern.
I happen to have an adapter that mates a c4 tranny to a 1350/1354 trans case that I might part with if your interested. I didn't use it for mine' cause I found a complete c5 and went that route instead.

Deepest for a regular d60 axle is 7.17 deepest for a high pinion is 5.38
 
o i didnt even think of a a regular one that sucks 5.38s aren't that high.

my wheel base is sterch to 110 inchs so i have a little more room to work with

but i was going to try the 2.9 with a 1350/1354 but i dont know now i think it might be a dog with 5.38s anyone running that setup if so could you tell me what its like

one of the guys at work has a f250 2wd with a 351 and a t19 could get the whole truck for like 500 bucks could just throw that in there with a divorced 205 and call it a day

Yes, but a T19 does not have a very low first gear like a T18 does. A NP435 first gear is even lower yet. And a divorced 205 doesn't have a very low low range it's around 2:1. If that the case you would end up with all mos the same setup I ran all last year. I ran a 302, NP435, married 205 with 5.13s on 44s It actually wasn't too bad. But if in real tight stuff or when in the rocks I had to ride the clutch. Now I just put together a 203/205 doubler and wow what a difference. I don't know how I drove it before.
