I see that in the write ups on doublers that I have seen for RBV's that it says that you cannot use an electric transfer case.
I have a 1354 manual case installed right now. I have a spare electric 1354 that I would like to cut up, and rig up as a doubler, like a prototype doubler. Unless I am missing something, I cant see why you couldnt use one...

The electric has to go on the back, as the shift mechanism is in the rear housing and wouldn't work on the front section of the doubler. The manual shifts out the front of the case, and can be used either front or rear. I'd grab a junk 1350 and use that as the front half of the doubler, then keep the electric as a backup for the rear manual case.

You can use an electric case for the doubler unit, but you have to get more creative on devising a method to move it's shift fork after the back half is gone.

An electric shift case was used here using a Chevy S-10 axle disconnect solenoid:

you can use the 1354 manual for the doubler, but I would use that for your rear case and get a 1350 manual for the doubler. stay away from using the electric shift if you can. You'll find dozens of threads on elect shift problems. plus yours is manual stock so you'd have to deal with all the wiring.

best bet would be to find another 1354 manual case, but those are hard to find. Cheapest would be to ge a 1350m case to cut up for the doubler and use the 6-gear planetary and shifter setup out of your 1354E case, as they're stronger and have a better shifting setup.

that what I have, I have the 1354E case in back right now, but I have a 1354M case going in so I can get rid of the elec shift junk.

Is this a DIY doubler, what are you doing for the shaft?

Thanks for your guys input. My Explorer came with the electric shift stock, I switched the manual one I currently have in as I got sick of the electric crap. I guess I will go to the scrap yard an look for a 1354 or 1350 manual case. And yes this is a DIY doubler, it will be my first attempt. For the shaft, I know some awesome welders, I might ask them if they can rig me one up, but I am leaning towards the idea of getting a one piece shaft made up. Dont want to be stuck in the middle of no where cause of a broken shaft.
