I own a scangauge2 and I can vouch for all those techniques except the acetone... It's a widely debated practice but I personally will not put that crap anywhere near my truck's gas tank.

If you want better gas mileage, buy yourself a scangauge2 and adjust that nut behind the wheel.

If you're dead set on the acetone, search around this site and especially over at ecomodder.com. There's a few interesting threads on it.

I pretty firmly believe if your vehicle is well maintained and running properly you won't be able to double your gas mileage without trading your truck/car for something that gets double the mileage. That is unless you are the kind of person that always drives WOT and always shifts at 5k rpms, in that case slow down a bit :icon_thumby:.

Any fuel additives will yield less than 1mpg difference (I can't vouch for acetone, but have you seen what that stuff does to paint?). Seriously, biggest gains you'll see is from proper maintenance and careful driving. I'm averaging just under 14mpg right now, but 90% of my driving is short trips under 30mph and I let my truck idle for a min or so before I start driving when is 5 degrees Fahrenheit or colder. Which actually is right around what the EPA suggests I should be getting.

There have been several threads on acetone on this site, general concensus is bad idea.

I got one those ScanGaugeII tools too. Just by going through the read outs, I could sqeeze an extra 2mpg from my driving habits. Though, with the 4-banger, I risk getting plowed into.

you'll need the acetone, the little angle blades that go in the air intake along with that electric motor "turbo" thingy, the "chip" for the computer, and the spinners on your wheels. :icon_thumby:

not only will you be able to cruise at 140mph, but you'll be saving so much gas, you'll only have to fill your tank once a year!! :yahoo:

what do you guys figure is the worst part about using acetone? i know a lot of people, mechanics specifically, recommend putting methyl hydrate in your gas tank to run through emissions tests, to bring down your HC readings... i can't see acetone being much worse than methyl hydrate...

i'm not entirely sure if i am convinced about the 10mpg gain, but honestly, what bad could come of it? i'm thinking that maybe a test with a bottle of acetone, and some rubber fuel line might answer the question of weither or not fuel line will dissolve in it...

good input there troll...

Everybody I know who are mechanics say 'NO' and every mag I have read says 'NO'...so I say 'NO' as well. Don't take a chance and damage your motor.

troll?? perhaps in your eyes, but double your gas mileage?? c'mon, get real! i guess you believe everything you read or see on tv or your computer. the threads about this are many and on more web sites than you can imagine. so why isn't everyone getting 60-70 miles per gallon? why isn't gas $1.00 a gallon due to the glut of excess with everyone doubling their mileage?
troll you say? i'll defer to my quote below.

yes, you are a troll, instead of having some useful input to a legitimate question, you post bullshit that helps no one...

plus, no one said acetone will double your gas mileage, all those other factors was supposed to... nor do i expect to double my mileage period, but an increase of even 10% in mileage would be worth it in my mind...

get a car? that's a logical answer to it... being that fuel economy is only a factor in trucks... i can afford to put gas in my truck, it's not a big deal, however if i can save a few bucks, why not? that's like saying, hey do you want a coupon? no, i should just get a job that pays more...

it was a simple joke. calm down.

Calm down. Acetone has been discussed before. He also made a reference to the "turbonator" or "Tornado" bolt on because it's another one of the things that advertises huge gas mileage gains with seemingly now downside. The point he was trying to make was that the topic of acetone has been bright up before. Also, he was trying to save you from yourself (A simple "thank you" should be sufficient).

Also, a 10% gain? That's a maximum of 2mpg with the 4.0SOHC. Is 2mpg worth ruining your vehicle? There's much less risky ways of seeing a 10% gain without adjusting your driving habits:
1. Buy tires with lower rolling resistance, make sure they are properly inflated
2. Buy a tonnaeu cover
3. Maintain your truck religiously
