Door locks lock after 5 seconds

On my sons 99 XLT when I start it, the door locks lock automatically after about 5 seconds without putting it in gear. It's a real pain in butt, especially when you start it then try to scrape off the windsheild then the door locks engae. Have to run to find the spare key. Been thru the manual and couldn't find anything pertaining to this. On my F150 the doors will auto lock when you hit about 15 MPH. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does it have an aftermarket alarm? My wife's alarm is set up to do the same thing. Rangers never had auto locks that I am aware of.

Previous owner had an alarm system, but when I bought it from dealer it was suppose to be removed. I have none of the old controls or don't even know what brand it was. Might take it to an alarm installation place and see if they can de-activate it. Thanks, I never thought of that.

That's gotta be it. I just double checked on the Ford website and auto locks were not an option with the factory alarm/keyless entry on the 99 Ranger.

Someone has installed a central locking system. My truck did not come with remote locks. I installed an after market system on my truck and the doors lock by themselves after starting. Look under the dash on the drivers side for the module. Small square box with an antenna and a lot of wires. If you dont want to remove the module look for an in line fuse and remove it.
