Door Handle Flexing

Having owned a 95 Chevy previously I had assumed that my door handle problems would be solved by buying a Ford. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case.

The passenger's side exterior door handle was broken when I bought the truck. I grabbed one from Amazon and put it on.

However, the handle seems to flex instead of popping the latch like it should. If you don't pull up sharply, the door won't open. I think this latch is going to break before too long unless I find out what the problem is.

I did bend the rod just a little in an attempt to shorten it. It wouldn't open at all before I bent it some. I'm not sure that I shorten the rod much more.

Anyone else have this problem?

My 01 has the same issue. The drivers side isnt nearly as bad as the passenger side. I never thought about looking into repairing it but once my new door lock cylinders come in this week ill have to look into it when i have the door apart.
