Door Chime driving me crazy

while working on my truck i often have to have the door open(duh) and often have to move it from place to place around the shop and the door chime is driving me bonkers! how can i get rid of this monstrousity??

There's a couple of ways to kill the dinger, but my preference is to cut the "key in switch" wire that runs down the steering column from the ignition switch. This wire may even be in a single-wire connector that can simply be unplugged, like on my '94.

located the door chime module in both my escorts and my ranger and unplugged the dang things. i cant stand door dingers.

i guess the advantage to unplugging the "key in" switch would be that the dinger would still ding if you left your headlights on.

Yep; the lights-on reminder dinger will still work.

Anybody know what color this wire is. I did this on my 01 F250 but don't remember the wire color.

What about the door chime that goes off while the ignition is off (key in OR out) and drivers door is open? I cannot stand that chime, makes no sense to have a dinger when the ignition is off. Can this be disabled by itself or must I lose some other alert?

im pretty sure that is a faulty ground and not something its suposed to due. i got rid of that problem by clipping the wire that runs to the key. in my ranger it had pulled loose and was grounding on the tumbler so no mater what i did it would chime. in my 98 it was a single green wire that ran into the ignition tumbler it should be the only one that does. im pretty sure its on the bottom side closer to the drivers seat back. just pull the cover off and look for the single wire as its prob different from year to year and month to month knowing how ford is with their wireing.

That sounds like a much better idea than just pulling the fuse for it like I was going to suggest. Haha! On my '93 that I just got the fuse was blown and the dome light, power mirrors, and door open chime were all on that fuse. Replaced the fuse and now get that awesome door open ding.

thats only the wire that gets rid of the chime when the keys are in the ignition theres a seperate one for the door chime when the door is open but i dont know where it is

mine used to do this even with the door shut due to the switch in the door going bad and whenever you turned the headlights on. i pulled out the ignition wire and it quit. why i dont know but it did. i dont know if why else if you had the lights off and the door open it would ding, ive never had that happen. when mine did this the wire had pulled out enough to touch something metal so it was constantly grounded and why i went in to the steering colume to find it.
