Well, after getting the new stereo installed (ended up just running new speaker wires), I have developed a definite irritation for the door dinger. How can I turn it off or uninstall it? Easy fix please - I would like to start driving, not putting back together!

i just cut the wires for mine on my 89 ranger. i do not remember were it is but i just cut the wires and taped them up so it wouldnt spark.

Unplug the wire that attaches to the key cylinder in the steering column, the door ringer will only chime when your lights are left on. I did this to my 88' Ranger and it was done to my brothers 91' Ranger not to mention his 88' B2 (I miss it so...). We hate it too :D

+1

I did that in a couple of my BIIs, it's real simple to do, but you might have to pull at least the bottom cover off the steering column to get to it.

I have also tracked down the dinger and unplugged it there, but after leaving my lights on by accident a couple times I started re-thinking that one.

The module is under the ash tray. There is a silver module that you unplug. I had to do this to my truck as the dinger was like yours...always on.

on my 89 BII, it's a white plastic box, right behind where the ashtray is, you can unplug it, and then if you want to go one step futher, take it apart, take the metal "w" out and also take the round metal disk out, then snap it back togather, then plug it back in, no dinger.

On gen 1 its behind the glove box liner.

I unplugged the lock cylinder in the column. I like the lights on buzz.
