Dont know which one to choose

Hey guys, I'm thinking of pulling the 3L from my 2007 this spring, but don't know which one to swap with. I can get my hands on both the 4.6 and the 5.0 easy, just don't know which would be easier to install or more efficient. I do alot of highway driving and hit the trails sometimes. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks

without a doubt, the 5.0

its the most straightforward, well-documented swap possible for the ranger. the 4.6 is super wide and will be a pain to fit. plus, the 5.0 is usually a more reliable setup. it may not be as good on gas, but its cheaper to make more power with.

The 5.0 is the first choice. plenty of parts out there for them and tons of vehicles that came stock with a 5.0 to play with.

Picked up a complete 88 T- bird with 5.0 and AOD tranny for $700 every thing is there you just need to swap things over with a few extra parts. Good luck.

Another thing to consider is the legality of the swap, if you're concerned with such a thing and live in a state that requires the engine being swapped in to be at least as new as the vehicle it's going in to. The 5.0 went out of production after model year 2001 to the best of my knowledge but the 4.6 is still in production. But I totally agree, everything I've heard is that the 4.6 is a bear to fit into a Ranger (but not impossible).
