dome light

I have a 98 ford ranger, when the key is on and the truck is in drive the dome light goes off, but as soon as you turn the key off and open the door it stays on forever. Any ideas, has anyone re-routed the wiring to bypass the GEM and just use the door light switches to turn it off and on

spray wd40 on the door switches, it just sounds like they are gummed up, the wd40 doesnt conduct electricity so its fine to spray on the switches.
