MY dome light stays on, but it's not because of either of the door jam switches. I assume it's a short somewhere, are there any common places to look? I figure I'll just run a new wire from the dome light to the dimmer switch to see if thats the problem if i have to

How did you eliminate the door switches? Sometimes spraying them with solvent doesn't help, and the switch has to be replaced. If your truck has a GEM module, it controls some of the interior lighting, and may be bad. :)shady

I've replaced both of them, and have even tryed just unpluging them, which should turn it off, right? How would i know if I have a GEM module? I have a 98 supercab.

I am not that familiar with the 98 to give explicit information, just generalities. If you have your owners manual, look in the dash panel fuses. If there is a gem module, it will have a fuse, maybe more than one, or two.

Do you have any other symptoms with internally controlled items, wipers, door locks, etc?

Have you turned the headlight switch fully end to end? The dome light switch is on the dimmer part of the headlight switch. Sometimes it gets bumped on, and one does not remember to check it. Check it with all doors closed, but you knew that.:)shady

I checked the dimmer switch, it's not all the way up, I'll look at my manual later.

Ok, just to clarify, I am talking about the panel lights dimmer, not the headlight dimmer. You probably knew that too, but I wanted to make sure for my own satisfaction.:)shady

yes the one for the gauge backlights/cargo light, and i found the fuse for the GEM and it's fine, and everything else works fine anyways. I'm guessing it has to be a short somewhere
