i have a 2000 xlt 3.0 that i am swaping in a v8 from a 2000 mercury mountaineer, the problem i have is that my truck is 2wd and the mountaineer is AWD, i am wanting to stick with 2wd sense im trying to build a prerunner, with that what vehicle can i get a trans from that will play nice with the electrical harness from the mountaineer? are all 4r70w the same as far as electrical conection? any info would help me

Thanks

2wd Explorer/Mountaineer from the same year would be a great place to start.

Not sure about the electrical connectors on the Mustang (3.8 V6) trans. They may be the same.

Just run the awd case and mod your driveshaft. You already have it, why spend more?

I would source the 4R70W from a 2WD 5.0 Explorer from 99~01 only. Earlier years have sensor, harness pinout and PCM differences that would make the swap more difficult.

In addition, the 99~01 4R's fall within the years that have upgraded internals for improved reliability. Find a good example, add a shift kit and go.

I think ill try to find the 2wd explorer trans but, from the searching i did those models of explorers seemed to be harder to find, thats the reason i went strait to other models of ford with the same trans. i will have to post again tommorow after i call the salvage yard again and see what they have.

thanks

So called the local salvage yard today and lucky me they had the exact year and everything, so went and picked it up for 300.00 yay

so my next question is has anyone ever delt with a monster transmissions rebuild kit, or heard about them good or bad? thats my next step....

also i plan on running a E303 cam which says 2500-5500 rpm will that require a stall converter or would the stock one work but wouldnt be ideal?
