I'm looking to make more power out of my 95 2.3 2wd and my transmission is fine I use it but the clutch and shit just don't seem to make alot power like I wanna gun it and it just doesn't have the power to fully slide and I wanna Dog on my ranger to drift and off road so ima weld the diff but I'm looking for a tranmission swap that has just a Lil better gear ratio so I can jam gears and really dog in my ranger when I wanna have fun but I want it to be a manual and just like be able to hold up to me wanting to tow shit and burnouts and messing around honestly without having to completely worry about it breaking bc the 5 speed it just don't do much

I'm thinking your keyboard is broken too... I don't see a single period. Not trying to be the grammar police but it sure makes thing hard to read and understand.

That said... what's your final drive ratio and tire size?

100hp is only going to afford so much fun.

The 4 banger tranny has the lowest ratios out of any of them though..

Like Uncle gump said.. whats the rear end ratio and tire size? And use some damn punctuation lol.

Tire size rn is 205 -r14 but ima put 16x7.5 with tractor tires on it and ima swap tires when I wanna do a burn out etc

Is this your daily driver?

If so... consider a lunchbox locker opposed to welding the diff.

Based on the information you've provided, swapping the rear axle for one with a 4.10:1 gear ratio will help. The engine doesn't produce a lot of power. So I'm not sure you can coax it to do what you are expressing you want to do.

As far as welding the spider gears in the differential, that would be a horrible idea. You only do that in a dedicated off road only vehicle and even then, that isn't the best solution. If you don't have the budget for a regular differential locker, a lunchbox locker will do similar, with some quirks, without risking breaking an axle shaft like welding the differential will do.

As far as the transmission, there isn't an OEM made option that has a better gear ratio for a four cylinder engine. The one that is in there already is going to be the best available option.

That would be a better match for the off roading side of things for sure. There have certainly been people who have used a RWD vehicle with a locker for off roading and done it pretty successfully but there are times when one just needs the front axle pulling along with the rear in order to get through stuff.

You will also be very surprised how far you can get with open front and rear differentials. Lockers and limited slip differentials just make it easier. Skill goes a long way as long as you have the right tires. And if you can, off road with a friend. Eventually, even the best equipped off road vehicle will get stuck. It hasn't happened to me yet but sooner or later, it will happen and you will need a buddy, along with some recovery straps to yank you out.

Yea it gets pretty far i put my 95 threw a 2ft mud hole couple nights ago I made it about half way compared to the big 2500 going threw then I hit it a second time in reverse and it made it almost out lmaooooo it was insanely fun had my buddy pull me out

A turbo will help that 4-cyl as well, it was a common upgrade, most guys would strip parts off a Thunderbird or the like in the junkyard. Ford put turbo 2.3 motors in a few different cars back in the day and it was the same motor the Rangers got so a pretty simple swap from my understanding
