My 3.55 gears in my 96 i had worked well. Got shitty mileage but had tons of power. Not as much as my 83 with a 4sp and 4.10's though 
My buddy had a 94 ext cab 4x4 5sp with a 300, there out there, but rare. Never seen a longbed one, short boxed ones do exist for sure though.
I actually seen ONCE a 96 (I believe) F350 XL Crew Cab 2wd with a 300 in it. Thats rare.
