crap out of anyone else?i have a 2002 xlt double cab and it is a nuisance that the guage can change up to 1/4 tank depending on what kind of angle im at.
has anyone else changed the sending unit or anything like that to change or fix this? :icon_confused:

Yep, Uphill or Downhill the gauge reads more or less. No worry. I normally drive by the odometer anyway. I get over 300 miles to the tank. There is also a low fuel light that comes on if I fail to pay attention to the odometer. Life is good and there are some things not worth worrying about.

ah i can hope tho eh can get a litle worriesome when all of a sudden your gas light comes on and you rush to a gas station but as soon as you get back on flat ground it goes back up to 1/8 or 1/4

thats just the way it goes man, my truck "94" has a slosh module thats is supposed to help, but not much at all

you wanna talk about annoying, i put a napa fuel pump in my truck with the new sending unit, and instead of having a bunch of tracers for the sending unit to read, it only had 4 big solder sections, so my guage will read half tank until the actual fuel level reaches 1/4 tank then the guage will drop from full half tank to quarter in about 10 seconds lol so i just use the odometer

I have a 02 Duramax that p/o put a 45 Gal tank in works good live by Reno could drive to Tijuana without stopping. It does this gauge thing very annoying.I think that it's the shape of the tank the length of the tank makes it hard to gauge.

Be glad it works at all. Early Rangers are notorious for the thing not working at all.

^+1. But on the OP annoyance isssue, my mom used to have a '99 taurus that would move from 1/2 tank to below E an back in the mountains. I barely, if ever drove it and it used to mess with me SO bad if I just hopped in and didn't pay attention to the gauge beforehand.....

Mine is fairly accurate down to a half a tank.

After that it seems to read just about whatever it wants to. One trip I can have it pegged out past E, next trip 3/8 of a tank, trip after that right on E, then half a tank... almost entertaining to see where it will end up.

When I pull the bed off I am going to try to put a new sender in it...

Coming from Jeep SJ wagons, with 4 foot long tanks only as deep as the frame rails. Below a 1/2 tank would slosh all over the place. You sure Rangers werent really made in Kenosha? This isnt the first similarity I ve seen since I bought a Ranger. :D

I never had any problems with my 99 Ranger. It is very accurate. I gas up at 300 miles and I have always have right at 5.3 to 5.4 gallons left in the tank when I fill up and see how many gallons I added. When my gauge shows 1/4 tank left it is very accurate. Maybe I just got lucky with mine. Now, do you park in an angled driveway or street a lot?

My '96 S-10 went dry when it read 1/4 tank, lol. The fuel sloshing don't bother me, I generally know where it is. This summer I ran my Mazda down to almost empty, and when the gauge hit empty it started climbing back up. I pulled over and cycled the key when it hit the full mark, and it read correctly again. Not sure what happened there, but I did have a bad negative terminal at the time.
