Its been awhile since I have been on here, but my Ranger smoked yet another M5R1 (M5OD-R1 or whatever) and I need to get it going. Now the shop down the road wants 850 for a new one but kind of tight on funds right now. What year of that 5 speed will bolt up to my '92 2.3L? Will all the later years bolt right up, long as it was behind a 2.3? Stuck driving my cj5 around with no brakes so any and all information would be fantastic since I can not find ANYTHING online about it. Thanks.

Anything after 88 on a 4 banger will fit you.

mid-2001 and newer transmissions (Duratec engines) won't bolt up.

Alrighty so basically I can get a 5 speed from an 88 to say 2000 to be safe and they will all bolt up long as it was from a 2.3. Im going to assume that the other engine trannys wont bolt to the 4 banger such as the ones found behind the 3.0 or 4.0-?

3.0 and 4.0 trannies won't bolt up.
