I bought a 2006 Ranger Sport with a 100k on it and have no idea what kind of maintenance has been done to it. All I can say is that when I bought it last year I could tell it was all Highway kms because the wear on the steering wheel and peddles was very little and the seats felt very firm.
It definatly still had a somewhat new feeling to it which is one of the reasons I bought it.
Just wondering if I can call ford give them the serial number and if they can tell me any maintanance work that was doen?
Also I have heard alot about the cam synchro issue with these motors. Should those just be changed at a certain milage?

Ford as a whole does not usually keep those kinds of records.

There are things that can be done to tell though. The plug wires will look dingy if they are old. The factory plugs will have painted dots on the top of them. Fuel filter, just go by appearance. If it looks old and the copper solder joints are green, it needs replaced.

Fluids, go by looks. If they are dark and such, just get them flushed.

I believe if the service was done at a dealership they will keep records filed by serial number. They may release that information to you but they may need the prior owners permission.

As a rule when I buy a new vehicle without service records I assume I need to:
1. replace all fluids 2. replace plugs and wires 3. take a compression test (although that should have been done prior to purchase) 4.Check belts, hoses.

Yes, individual dealerships keep records of the work they did, as do most independent shops.

All we would require to release old service records is proof of ownership. It's not exactly privileged medical information and we can give you a list of what was done when without giving you information about the previous owner that you wouldn't already have on the bill of sale.

The important (in my opinion) maintenance for a long vehicle life is to keep the fluids like oil, rear end, trans, and coolant changed on a regular basis, and if they were done by a previous owner they probably were done either at home, or at a quick lube place, so it's doubtful that Ford would have a record of those items.
