My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
Was about to remove my (badly rusted) shift motor, check out approx. 11 related items, do the pliers thing on the selector shaft just for grins, and generally drive around for a week (or three) in 2HI, sans shift motor... while perusing the U-Pull-It yard, and obsessing over 9 different schemes for conversion to manual, lulz.

THEN I caught some "cross talk" on another forum that the selector shaft is like a 3-yr-old on a sugar high, i.e. cannot be left "unattended". i.e. without a motor or Shiftster or SOMETHING to hold it in gear, it can/does slip or drift into neutral (or 4HI?) while driving along... :shok: Generally considered "bad form", esp. if on a date, or transiting a 3-left-turn-lanes mega-intersection. Can't have that.

What say ye RKIs? If true, will a rag and a popsicle stick do the trick?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting question. I don't know. I was going to mention the shiftster as I installed one a couple of years ago. The transfer case shifted by hand but with some effort, but I can't say that wouldn't be the case while under load or coast.
Subscribed for the knowledge to be gained.

The T-case has detents in 2wd and 4low (maybe neutral too). It will stay in either of those gears. It doesnt have a detent for 4High, so it will pop out and usually wind up in neutral.

Yes, the above is true.

Been running my rear case without a shift motor for years. Intalled a t handle on the shaft and shift it manual. Either 2 hi or 4 low, only wheel in low, or double low:D
