Wires are frayed and looking to replace.. Can’t find much information regarding this one. I think it might be a knock sensor but i can’t tell. Wiring diagrams i have don’t really offer much help..

Located on the drinkers side near the 1st(?) cylinder?

Any helpful information i’d appreciate

I can’t tell you what the plug is connected too but if you have a junk yard near by, you should be able to find a Ranger with the same thing and cut off the connector to make yourself a pigtail to splice in your truck. Just give yourself plenty of length to work with incase the initial splice doesn’t work.

Yes… that’s the knock sensor.

Our dealership had a wiring pigtail assortment so we could fix things like that. You'll need to pull the wires out of the connector so they can be matched up, then splice in the new connectors with either heat shring butt connectors or by soldering and heat shrinking them.

Meh… I’d replace the 20 year old sensor.

Are these a pain or replace? I tried to trace the wire coming off the front but it gets lost behind so many hoses and the T stat, I can hardly get my mitts in there....

i would just leave it...

Yep, that's the harness plug+socket for the KnockSensor on the V6~4.0L~SOHC,
replacement requires removing IntakeManifold to unbolt from engin valley.
Scotch33 ElectricalTape & CableTies can be a "Temporary Fix" for bare\frayed wires.
A glorified microphon; Computer\PCM listens & adjusts timing as needed;
knocking more likely as fuel octane decreases & compression ratio increases.
Vid below of a notorious knocking 1970s~1980s Ford engin; go to 3:00 for the knocking scene.

It’s mounded dead nuts center under the intake manifold.

It’s not that hard to take off though, and it has a silicone oring type gasket, so it’s reusable, unless it’s all hard and crumbly.

Yeah I read up that you "shouldn't reuse the knock sensor" .. But why would I anyway? Damn thing is original.. Only costs 50$ for a new one... So I am gonna replace it.
