I have a Crapsman Garage door opener and it has pissed me off too many damn times. The sensors at the bottom of the door track have got to go. I tried to remove them but then the door opener will not work at all. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the damn things?

Are you having problems with the sensors themselves or are they just getting in your way? You could maybe mount them to the ceiling facing each other so the opener thinks everything is fine.

they are a safety item so children and pets do not get crushed, they were put in place because that had happened in the past.

those things are really annoying.

I've seen houses with the real heavy insulated garage doors, the doors would sag from being open all day and then the metal bars that go across the door to brace it would just barely break the laser beam, so someone would have to push outward on the door as it shut to get the brace out of the beam and get the door to close.

Me, I've got one sitting at home ready to install. Hopefully someone knows how to defeat that feature, otherwise I'll just mount them facing, or mount them at the top of the doorway instead of the bottom so I miss it by ducking under the door as it closes.

why should everybody be forced to put up with these things because a few people didn't pay enough attention to their kids or pets to not close them in the garage door?

A lot of people have brought up the safety issue to me before. I grew up in a house with a mucj larger garage door and never had an issue. It even went back up on its own if it came into contact with anything. It did not take much either. One time it came down on a screw driver that rolled into its path. It litley touched then went back up. I hate these sensors and I want them gone for good.

My doors will reverse if something is in the way, depending on how sensitive you have them set. I also mounted the optical sensors on the ceiling when I put a new opener on for the folks.

Switch to a manual opening door haha, granted its inconvenient but you know when you want it to open it'll open

These things were made for a reason. One child dead is one too many.
I thought you guys were smarter than this...

i dont know man, my kids are 5 and 7 and they know better then to stand or lay under a garage door lol, besides the fact how would they get stuck? hold the remote while standing under the door? or push the button on the wall and run under the door? a kid that would do that needs some serious parenting or a good scare from a garage door

You are very lucky to have such great kids. But inteligence and good upbringing does not make kids invincible. They are kids afterall, no mater how good of a parent we are to them. Now didn't you pull a bunch of crazy stuff when your parents weren't around? I feel we need to protect most people from themselves. Darwin did not get famous for nothing.
