Ok, so this past fall I took an auto graphics class. It was a pretty good over-view of how to do things like flame, stripe, etc, using paint, not decals.

So now I am putting the stuff I learned in that class to paint me up a spiffy-looking piston shifter. I'm already documenting the process and putting it up in my build thread, but I was wondering...

Is anyone else interested in learning to do this stuff? I mean it's gonna be documented in my build thread either way, but if there is interest I'll write up an article about how to do some basic graphics that goes into more detail about how to do it, I'll even go out and get some 1/8" stripe tape and show you guys how to do some flame outlines.

Thoughts, opinions, yes, no?

Yes my future father in law is always talking about how he did the flames on his old first truck. After me and my brother finish the truck we are fixing up for our dad (72 chevy) ill be looking to fix up one like his first truck (68 chevy) I love my ranger, but there is nothing like working on an old chevy. *ducks as bricks fly past head*

Show off your skills ,I have my skills cut into steel with my torch will post up pics later and it is flames cut into 1/4 plate

I don't have all that much of a problem with the pre-1980 chevy trucks... or the older Dodge trucks.... it's the newer stuff that I hate.... and I have mixed feelings about most of the new Fords as well.... way too much electronic crap and sensitive ride features an stuff on the new Fords. I want a truck, not a sissified mall crawler.

Couple of flamers...

Amen. Now lets watch our feelings be ignored by car makers since the mall crawler drivers have more money and are greater in number. ...Bastards.

Back on topic, a writeup would be badass.

Yep, and they're always the ones to whine that "the economy is so bad right now, you really need to cut your price if you want to do the work" to us contractors.... I'm sorry, when you're driving a new BMW and the wife drives a Mercedes, I have pretty much zero sympathy. Why should I work for pennies and beat up my body when you're making 100+k a year. Frickin stupid people...

And yes, back on topic, a writeup would be nice. IIRC there are a couple tech writeups already on doing like camo paintjobs and the like, so I see this fitting in.

Well, I guess I'll do it then. It's probably gonna be into May and June before I get it done, but I'll do it once I get some time.

i dont really care about graphics, but one day i'd like to repaint my old BII, the black roof is now gray

I voted No. But that's because I am an ass hole. :icon_thumby:

If 100 voted not, and 1 voted yes, wouldn't if be worth it to know you helped someone out??

We'll make it a tech article.

I see no reason to put graphics on my truck, because the rocks and trees would just scrape them all off. I have a 4 eyed Mustang in dire need of paint though. Let's see your mad skilz!

i like reading tech articles..even tho i dont get any smarter from reading them, i like to pretend that i do. i say do it!!!
