Does a 87 ranger STX, 4x4, with a 2.9 engine, use two fuel filters or just one??

Frankly I never looked inside my cannister, so I couldn't tell you.

I switched to a high pressure pump in the tank and deleted the one on the frame rail but left the cannister in place... that workes great until I clogged a fuel filter and the back pressure in the system split the cover on the cannister and caused a MASSIVE fuel leak

Oops!

After that I replaced the entire run of fuel line and deleted the cannister entirely.

My truck still has two fuel pumps though... one in EACH fuel tank....

when you changed to the high pressure in the tank did you swap to a plastic tank or does the old one interchange?

yes there is a check valve in the accumulator, it's job is to prevent air from entering the device on low fuel levels (my guess) from the return line to the tank. Of course I could have installed it backwards and it was meant to prevent high pressure fuel going back towards the regulator, but that might have solved the lean problem I am having and it didn't. Either way it was clogging the return line because it was broken.

Did you, somehow, make up a correct length of fuel line, with the correct ends, to splice in between the cannister and fuel filter, when you eliminated the frame rail pump??

You mentioned, that worked great until you clogged a fuel filter and the back pressure in the system split the cover on the cannister and caused a MASSIVE fuel leak..

Then you mentioned that you replaced the entire run of fuel line and deleted the cannister, entirely..

Were you able to buy the entire run of fuel line, that you needed, when you deleted the cannister, entirely, and the frame rail pump??

Or did you make up the entire fun of fuel line, yourself??

And if so, where did you find the correct ends for doing this, for connecting your fuel line ends to the frame rail fuel filter and your fuel tank's connnection??

I have repaired Ford plastic fuel hoses.
You just get the hose and reuse the ends

Do automotive parts stores sell plastic fuel hoses, off of a bulk roll, that will fit a Ranger and what size is this fuel line??

How much do they charge per foot for this plastic fuel line that you mentioned??

Do the connection ends on the old fuel line just pull off??

Or, do you need to submerge them in very hot water to soften the plastic for pulling the ends out of the old plastic fuel line??

If new ends are availabe, too, do you have any idea what they cost??

imperial eastman sells a nylon material at most hardware stores that comes in (surprise) standard fuel sizes. Plumbing section, white translucent, use for all materials. couple of $$ a foot. get the next size larger and force it on, or buy the correct size and clamp it on with some sized fuel tube from the parts store
