Hey all I am working on my GF car and the front driverside brake is hanging up. When driving it and ya step on the brakes they respond quickly but you can feel one hanging up for a bit then it seems to work off all the way but today we were driving home and I stepped on the pedal and it slowed down to let me go around the corner and I stepped back into it and it struggled to get back going and we had only about a mile to go and by the time we got home it was smoking pretty bad so I tore it apart and it seemed that the piston was sticky or rusty so I went and got a new Caliper and installed and helped but it still seems to be dragging a bit. There is no proportioning valve its all in the Master cylinder any suggestions?

If the calliper was sliding well on the pins the only thing I can think of is some kind of restriction in the fluid line, perhaps a bad flexible line.

if there is still air in the caliper it will hold the piston out. Try bleeding it again

If you managed to get your brakes smoking there's a good chance you warped your rotor too. Neon brake systems are apparently horrible. My girlfriend used to have one 'til I sold her my Acura (I wanted her to have something that wouldn't leave her stranded like the dodge kept doing) Anyway one time we were going out to lunch, parked the car, she set the parking brake and we went in and ate. Came back out and tried to move, the car wouldn't go unless you mashed the pedal. Turns out one of the shoes in the left rear drum managed to disconnect itself *while parked* and jammed the wheel up.

I made the mistake of setting mine's parking brake to and it turned out pretty much the same except the lining is what came off the shoe and jammed up in there. Gotta love Wal-mart brakes, I think that convinced her that cheap isn't always better
