Can you cut it down and swap in ford locking hubs and use it in a rbv..

Possible, all except the hubs, yes.
But why? There are better options out there.

Look at the pirate 4x4 d60 bible, it will answer all your questions.

If it were a 60 I would say yes, I have seen it done. But being out of a 1500 which won't be a D60 but a D44 I would say I don't know. You would need the knuckles from a Ford D44 to accomplish the swap. That fact alone would lead me to believe it would be more effective to start with a Ford axle. If you were planning to build a custom axle with custom shafts then the cost of possibly buying a complete axle just for the knuckles out wouldn't be an issue. The should offer a free spin hub kit for them i believe

By the time you buy the Hub kit for it... You could buy the ford 44

I have been looking ford a ford 44 for a wile. My cuzzin scrapped a dodge 1500. So I was thinking what I could do to that.

Would TTB knuckles work or are they solid specific?

Right now JY's have a pretty abundant supply of TTB trucks.

TTB knuckles have a different balljoint spacing (and probably SAI also).

I don't see why not use it if it's free... It's not the most desirable axle out there but should be fine as long as you don't put wide-offset wheels on it (has unit-bearing hubs), though it isn't any stronger than a D35 if that's what you have now, so I see little point in it (being the Dodge D44 is lo-pinion it might even be weaker where the D35 is hi-pinion).

Also forgot to mention a good many of these will have a CAD. Anyone who really wheels a Dodge will normally toss this axle for either a Dana 60 or a Ford HP Dana 44. I'd say these are the worst of the D44s. That aside though like I mentioned earlier where this would be a deal would be if you were building a custom axle. If you shorten the long side you will need a custom shaft which will get rid of the CAD. As long as the ball joint spacing is right you would be able to swap Ford outer onto that axle, you may have to get a tapered reamer to get the balljoints to fit. You would need from the knucle out and the stub shaft. But then again you will have as much or more expense in this than just sourcing a low pinion Ford D44 which you would likely be taking the knuckles from. If you can make do with the Dodge knuckles and outers that is where this axle will be a deal.

That is also in a fullsize truck. I doubt many F-150 owners hold the 31 spline 8.8 in as high of a reguard as we do with our much lighter Rangers.
