I have a 92 ranger with auto hubs that are no good I might add! Do I have to get the conversion kit or can I go to the local wreckers and get manual hubs with the locknut and guts and just swamp them, I don't want to put a lot of money in the old girl. Thanks in advance

the "conversion kit" is just a set of spindle locknuts and special washer used under the manual hubs. you could go to the junkyard and steel the hubs and spindle nuts off a manual hub truck...but the factory manual hubs arent too impressive. warn manual hubs are a decent upgrade...jeep hubs are even better (see the tech library).

Sludge, the normal warn D35 hubs and the factory manual hubs are identical. The only observable difference between them is it says 4x4 instead of warn on the knob.

And yes, you can just get the spindle nuts and washer off of the truck in the junkyard and replace all of yours under the auto hubs from the ones under the manual hubs. Be sure and set the torque on the wheel bearings properly when you swap the nuts over.
