do we have "classic" cars?

I think the Rangers will be classic. They are holding their valve better than many other vehicles of the same age. And I still see a lot of old full size Ford trucks on the road and many are fixed up nice. There are catalogs with new and reproduction parts to help people keep there Rangers in good shape and fix them up. Plus the fact that you can't buy any type of new small American truck will help keep Rangers popular. I have read that if Ford does come out with a small truck it will likely be a uni-body. So I think that will make the old full frame Rangers the classic real trucks. Sure many Ranger have been and will be crushed just like any other vehicle, but there seems to be many people that love their Rangers and plan to hang on to them.

I don't see it happening, the only trucks that really have a following aside from the '50's GM's and Ford's right now is the 70's-80's C/K series.

I have only seen one other first gen at a car show in my area, it was a BII on a EB frame (titled as a EB) that the guy was trying to sell.

But then again once apon a time dad bought a faded but straight/solid red 2dr Chevelle SS396 that smoked blue when you got on it for less than $200...

When I was staying with my aunt in CA back in '69. I tuned up my cousin's boy friend's 200$ beater. A '64 canary yellow Chevelle SS 327. :bawling:

Lol, somebody has a head start on the market....

I'm thinking Rangers won't be much in the way of classic status simply because there are sooo many of them. My '93 qualifies for collector plates in my state but I don't go a day without seeing another '93-'97 in the other lane on the way to work. Not too hard to collect. CL is absolutely full of them rusty or not and fairly cheap. Now, I'm not complaining. That they are so common makes them cheap to fix but classic status is fickle. When was the last stripper '70 Chevelle with a 307 on the cover of Hot Rod?

I don't think you can use production numbers as a marker for value. Granted a limited production run does add the "rare" value to it, but how many 62-66 or 67-72 chevy trucks were made? Or how many 60's and 70's ford trucks? They are not rare by any means.
They are old trucks sitting behind barns and fields all over America, and people are looking for and restoring them. And they are starting to pull big money now.
I think why the old truck market boom started was because the muscle car market got out of reach of the average working man. ( thanks to Barrett Jackson) Now that most people can't afford a 69 muscle car etc.. they can get a 69 truck still pretty reasonable.
I know for a fact that in my area alot of 1st and 2nd Gen rangers got sent to the junk yard / crushed thanks to that "cash for clunkers" deal.

old datsuns have a cult following,,,,but I notice the prices are starting to go up on them......had a 73 datsun pickup 10 years ago that I paid $700 for......it was stolen and never recovered.......now datsuns in about the same shape go for about $1500......rangers will be the same way I think

On the other hand was the last time you saw one in a demo derby?

The demand for several older muscle cars (and EB's) is high enough you can buy a brand new body with no history at all to make your own car out of.

I seem to remember someone built a 67 mustang from scratch with one of those replacement shells.... I have it on dvd around here somewhere

I would prefer it to a fancy smancy one, I can never leave anything stock or "correct" and best of all, no rust :yahoo:

Collectible or not, my truck will be getting classic vehicle plates as soon as it's old enough. Only 11 years to go! ;missingteeth; I already have classic plates on my 94 Bronco and my 92 Accord. ;brownbag;

Are classic plates expensive? I have no idea on how about getting them, my grandpa wants to put some on his old suburban.
