Hi

98 XLT Regular Cab

My power windows and dome light are both not working, checked all the fuses and all seems OK.

Do these things share a relay and where are the relays please?

Thanks in advance!

There is a relay that both of these run on, or it's a combination of 2 relays. It's underneath the dashboard to the right of the steering column. Lay on your back on the driverside floor and look up and you'll see a black box with electrical tape around it. Cut the tape carefully and open the box. There will be 8 or 9 relays in it. The ones that do the dome light are the back two, closest to the passenger side of the truck. Try replacing both of them and see if this solves your problem. Have fun getting to them as it is very uncomfortable to get in that position, but once you do, OH BOY! :icon_thumby:

Glad you got a response - I didn't

I posted the nearly identical problem here a week ago and still got no responses to it. Suggestion; check your windshield wipers. When my windows and dome light developed a mind of their own, it was during a dry spell. Then Hurrricane Ida, Ira -whatever- came through with about 8"of rain. I left the house with my wipers working fine, but in a few miniutes they started to go on/off. lasted untill the truck warmed up. Still can't figure whether that was due to temp, or charging cycle. Gives a whole new meaning to "intermitent" wipers when they quit on you at 50 mph during a heavy rain. I would like to know if/where the wipers are related in this circuit? ALso, any idea of the price for these relays & whether they are OEM or available aftermarket?:icon_confused:

I'll let you know how I get on, I just hope I can get the relays in the UK !

Check fuse 26 first (cab fuse panel).

Does yours have the feature where you can roll the windows up after the key is turned off, if the door hasn't been opened yet?

The other thing they have in common is ground G203, but I can't pinpoint its location for you.

Mine has the window/open door thing. Is that a possible problem?

Well!

I was all ready to get in there and have a look...

But, they started working again!

Stuck relay?

Damp?

Who knows?

I'll wait until it fails again and try again then, or maybe it won't :-)

Thanks for the replies!

Power Windows and Dome Light Issue - The Battle Continues Help!!

Right!

The intermittent nature of the fault has now ended and they both don't work all the time, so I went in search of the relay box (picture below) As far as I can tell it is as advised a combination of two relays as demonstrated by the powerlocking during my testing.

I have tried swapping the relays around but with no joy :-(

Can anyone please tell me which two relays in the picture are the ones for the dome light and the power windows. I have tried to follow the helpful quote but my box appears to be fitted in a different direction!

Another strange symptom is that even though the dome light is not working the chime sometimes works?

Thanks in advance.

Power Windows and Dome Light Issue - The Battle Continues Help- Not the relay!

Went out to the the truck this morning to have another screw around with the relay box, lo and behold the accursed dome light and windows were working, so with the help of the wife operating the windows I was able to identify and swap the relay with one of the power locking ones that I knew to be OK. This at least ruled out the relay ( I think? :-))

So if it's not the relay, what the **** can it be?

Anyone have any thoughts please?

Power Windows and Dome Light Issue - The Battle Continues,Not the relay,But it is..

The ****ing ignition switch!

I can get the problem to occur by wiggling the key around in the switch!

I feel so much less frustrated nowe :-)

Have a great day :-)

Hi again all!

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Stripped the dash down to get to the ignition switch and sprayed it with switch cleaner.

Fault still occuring, may be back on the bad earth trail!

Still happy to hear anyone's thoughts or experiences on this one please?

I'll keep you posted...

Hey ! So I've checked this post so many times and I was wondering if you were able to figure it out? I'm having the same issues and was wondering where I should hit next😅
