A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
Whew!... after coming up to speed on just how LAME and problematic the plastic-fantastic PVH hubs are on my '99 4x4, I'm gearing up my brain for a set of AVM manual hub locks! (Man, I used to go WAY out into BFE Nevada and Arizona on those lamers... but they were new... and I took survival goods... ;')

My "Sport" came stock with some pretty nice "Splash" aluminum wheels, which have a kinda cheesy chrome-plated PLASTIC center cap that covers the lugs and hub... will this fit over the AVMs, or will I just have a more hardcore off-road look? (Gotta admit it would kinda suck to have to pop off the faux covers to twist the AVM locks.)

Also, the only AVM hubs I find on Epay Motors are for Jeep CJs... are they the same? :dntknw:

Tellico.com has em! bOUT $135. DELIVERED. I've got a set on the way...

It can be done, I'm in the process atm on my truck.

I'm not sure which center caps you have, but on mine you can just drill out the circle with the Ford logo in the center of the cap. However, the AVMs are actually shorter than the PVH hubs. So, I am putting a circular gasket cut to size on the backside of the center cap so that it mates with the surface of the hub.

I'll try to have pics asap.

RANGER GUY thanks I never thought about that. I just got some avms in the mail yesterday ( broke the pvh ) I didn't even think about drilling a hole in the cap thats a good idea.

Ja, the gasket sounds like a great idea... OTOH, if the AVMs are even shorter than the originals, I'm not sure how they would even penetrate/contact the deco caps...? Yep, pics would be good!

Man, those PVHs are some kinda serious Rube Goldberg KLUGE!... almost afraid to open mine up...

PS: So if you leave AVMs locked when in 2WD, front driveshaft and "output end" of transfer case are getting exercised?

just did the avm replacement and the caps fit over the hubs just fine so how do I get to the locking hubs well I took a hole saw and cut a hole. now as for a gasket in between the hub and the cap maybe a bead of rtv just a thought.
