yes bs... i replaced head gaskets in my 4 liter.. picked up head bolts, gaskets and lower, upper an valve cover gaskets for about 240ish....

check ebay, i think i got my entire head gasket kit for like $80 (head gaskets, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets and new bolts even)

you can also try rockauto.com, they usually have really good prices.

I show 2 kits at autozone. 1 for 121.99 and 1 for 177.99 plus 39.99 for head bolts. no listing for intake bolts......... do they have the same problem with intake bolts breaking like the windsor engine?

sweet i call around tomorrow morning. +1 on the info about bolts breaking. if anyone has any tips or useful know how on doing these gaskets plz speak up. im kinda nervous about doing this on my own:blush:

I show $159.99 at napa for a head set - head bolts and oil pan gasket. 214 includes pan gasket... does a 4.0L have a valley pan? that could account for the extra cheddar

im not shure, all im going to replace is the head gaskets and intake gaskets:icon_thumby:.

well the set at napa include valve stem seals..... the ones from autozone do not appear to.

I just happened to be on autozone trying to price parts for my 5.0L

I've replaced the head gaskets on my '94 Ranger 4.0 twice now. All I can say is make sure you go ahead and get the new head bolts. When you torque them down to spec it stretches the threads a little bit and they never seat quite the same again. Also get a thread chaser and clean out the threads in the block for the head bolts, then blow out any residual debris/oil/water. Notice I said I had to replace the gaskets twice... not getting new bolts, and not cleaning out the threads didn't allow the heads to fully seat the first time and I blew a couple water jackets within 20,000 miles. The 2nd set I put in, with new bolts... 65,000 miles and counting.

Intake bolts should be fine. I didn't even attempt to remove the exhaust manifolds, I was afraid of twisting those bolts off, so I just disconnected the manifolds from the exhaust pipes and left them attached to the heads. One less gasket to worry about too.

Good luck, any other questions you have I'll try to answer.

Yeah..that's BS.

I would go to CarQuest and get Victor Renz gaskets, they are the best, and are not anymore expensive than Checker/Autozone.....

you might want to get your heads checked to see if they are tweaked at all.. i went through a lot of hassle because i replaced the head gasket and my heads were tweaked so it just blew them out again
