I have a 1985 ranger with a manual transmission and when I was driving it the other day and about half way home from running errands the truck starting acting up, as soon as the truck would get up to about 25 mph then the truck would just rev like the clutch wasn't fully disengaging. I pulled into a parking lot and after about 30 minutes I got in and the truck drove fine again. I'm not really sure where to start looking to fix the problem. the truck isn't my daily driver so I haven't driven it much since that happened but the couple times I have there hasn't been a problem. any suggestions on what the problem could be?

My first guess is look for any leaks, then try to bleed it. Maybe even flush the lines (let it bleed until fresh fluid comes out). If you do end up tearing into it, replace EVERYTHING.

My clutch pedal would be pressed to the floor and it would be hard to get into third or reverse, and the pedal was squeaking on press/release which is likely due to the slave and throwout bearing, after a few months i had a couple instances of being in third and engine revs as if the clutch didnt disengage completely and would have to press the pedal pull out of gear and replace into the same gear and it would go. Now even a few months down the road I now have a knock in the bellhousing. This truck is not my daily driver just my weekend camping/climbing rig. Ive got a stock pile of clutch parts and rtv to reseal all areas of the trans. I dont thinks i need to rebuild my trans, the gears have only grinded two maybe three times since issues started, not enough to do severe damage in my opinion. But if I were you I would change your clutch and do it quick before you get to my point where numerous things in the clutch system are failing/breakin and risk ****ing shit up worse and needing to rebuild a trans. Pull out the trans replace all clutch parts and reseal trans that way you don't need to mess with the area hopefully for a long time to come. I am even planning to replace motor and trans mounts while the trans is off the truck.

Thanks for the advice guys. Can anyone recommend a good rebuild kit?

I use the autozone duralast stuff, lifetime gaurantee and have never had any questions aske. Right now my 94 is in shop, thought I had bad rear main, so told guy to R&R clutch system. I have AZ and this is 3d complete system Ive gotten from them no questions asked. About 150000 on current. The Master Cyl cost me $50 as I did not have one of theirs, I also had a new flywheel installed as mine had been surfaced a couple of times and the system was getting hard to shift. Turns out both were worn, but still usable. But this should be last time ever that these parts are replaced in my lifetime! BTW the leak was from the valley cover and valve covers. Seemed instead of flowing over the bell housing they just leaked into it making it look like rear main leak!

The oil pan was seaping so they pulled engine up and R&R'd the pan gasket and I had them install an oil pump while they had it out. At 300000+ I figured it was about time as although now low oil pressure it did vary at times enough to make ya wonder.
