Just wondering if anyone in the forums have used a divorced Transfer Case for a 2WD to 4WD conversion. I only ask because I have everything but a T-Case and prefer not to spend more then I have to. This is a budget truck. It's a 1994 Ranger with the 3.0 V-6 and the Mitsu 5 Sp. I have done lots of conversions over the years, but never a Ranger.

Thanks,

You could run a divorced case, but it will afect your rear drive shaft angle. I would not do it unless your truck is a extended cab. Also you will need a divorced case from a 77 and older F250, which will be a np205. It is very heavy and you will also need to fab up another crossmember to hold it. What do you use this for? If it's for street use I would just find the correct case and trans. If you are off-road only and running larger axles and tires then go ahead.

The divorced Ford NP205 is probably going to be the easiest. Some toyota's (I think) came with divorced cases, but I don't even know what side drop they are.

I wouldn't worry about rear driveshaft angles, unless you mount it stupidly far back you'll still be better of than basically any Jeep.

However, by the time you fab up all the mounts and modify all the driveshafts, you'd probably have at least if not more into it than just swapping in a 3.0L M50D tranny and t-case (4wd is common for 3.0's) and getting the driveshafts all at a junkyard. Manual 1354 t-case premium included.

One idea here about a divorced transfer case.... IF one was to use such a set up, they would be able to position the transfer case in a location that would enable them to use identical length drive shafts. Now, if they could get the flanges on the rear shaft the same as the front... (or vice versa) only one SPARE drive shaft would be required as an emergency shaft.

Just some food for thought is all.

im going through this right now. i bought my 4bt with a t19 bolted to it. i was kindof excited to run that stout little tranny, so instead of buying a tranny/transfercase, i bought a divorsed 205, and now im going through hell with driveshaft angles, coming up with this stupid crossmember, shift linkage.....its probly going to be alot easier for you to just do the tanny/tcase swap.
