hello all im debating weather or not to go with a divorced np 205 or a borg warner 1354 transfer case. my application will be in a few months a 350 to 400 hp 302 h.o with a dana 44 full width axle and i dont know yet for the rear but thats on a different fourm. and i plan on running either 35's or 37's.

The 54 will hold up, but won't bolt up to a V8 trans without an expensive adapter...

do you think a stock BW 1356 from an f150 would work ? and or use a 2wd trans and a divorced ?

I'd use a 205 married case to a full size trans, with a divorced setup, that's 2 more ujoints to fail...

I hate to ask this but what do yall think would be cheaper a 2wd trans with a slip yoke eliminator and a divorced or a married np205 on a fullsize 4x4 trans?

Refer to the second part of post #4...

The only divorced swap I ever saw couldnt be driven on the highway because of vibration issues.

Not sure why it did that but I'd make sure you won't have that issue. Seems like it would be easier to get a trans/TC from any of the late 70's though 90's full size trucks and be done with it. Mounting that divorced 205 looks like a pain, and you can get a married one easy enough.

Why bother with a divorced case unless you have one laying around. If you use a larger joint for the intermediate then the rest of the driveline you likely won't break that, something else will pop first. You'll have to go back pretty far in years to get one and the name of the game there is to make the shortest intermediate shaft possible which can be a pain plus make an extra crossmember for the t-case. Not saying it can't be done but it isn't going to be the cheapest method. All the modern stuff is married and except for a few oddball t-cases they will all swap around. If you are bent on using the stock ranger case you can use a C4/C5 and use a Ranger output and tailshaft or use any transmission and get the adapter. What are you looking to do? Offroad only, daily driver, both and someone can give you some options to what works

When I first swapped the 351w in my truck I went with a c-6 and a bronco np208. The bronco 208 has a fixed yoke, where the f150 one is a slip yoke. It worked fine, meaning never broke.

Currently I'm swapping the c-6 out, going to put in a sm465 from a 79 f150 and probably keep the 208. The 205 is a good case, very strong, but the 208 has a better low range. I'm keeping the 205 around in case I start breaking the 208.

A friend has broken a couple 208's in his bronco II, but he's hard on stuff. The current one is welded in 4-low and is holding up well. One of his problems was that they didn't engage all of the way and were breaking apart.

can't ever recall a muncie 4 speed being in any F150, only option should be A t18/19 or NP435. Defintely correct on the Bronco 208, it's the only fixed yoke 208.

What trans are you looking to use for this? I'll put this in a nutshell from experience (non computer controlled stuff for now) of what is easy to get and will work.

Automatics C4/C5, C6 or AOD
Manuals T18/19, NP435, M5ODR2 or ZF 5 speed

If you are using a C4/C5 use a ranger extension housing and the stock t-case. There isn't a factory fullsize option for t-case but would imagine someone makes an adapter. All others will use a standard 6 bolt ford t-case.

The NP205 and 208 are the best fits as far as t-cases but some use the bigger BW 1356. The 205 is the strongest and heaviest, can be twin sticked as well.

The only reason I can see using a divorced 205 and a 2wd trans is it use a T5 tremec being the adapter is extinct and big bucks if you find a used one.

Your right, np435. Not sure what I was thinking, but thanks.
